How was the Roman Catholic Church formed?
Catholic is another word for universal and Roman Catholics believe Jesus created one universal church for the whole of mankind. The Roman Catholic Church’s origins believe to be found in Matthew 16 of the bible when Jesus spoke to his disciples.
The bible states that Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" The disciples gave Jesus various answers, "Some say John the Baptist, Jeremiah even Elijah as well as another of the prophets." But the question next asked by Jesus was crucial and would forever begin Roman Catholicism when he asked, "But who do you say that I am?"
The answer given by Simon Peter in passage, set the formation of the Roman Catholic Church by Jesus when he said, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." With this response, Jesus established the Roman Catholic Church with Simon Peter designated the 1st Pope.
It is through this doctrine the beginnings of Roman Catholicism is known to have been formed. Later on in the scripture Jesus would provide Peter with the foundations of the first church to be built when he gives Peter the rock on which his church is to be built on and the keys of heaven (Matthew 16:18-19). It is in this scripture around 1st century AD the Roman Catholic Church was founded.
